The next screenshot is just a brainwave that I had while I was playing along on my own...

It shows a ML with a LRLRLR topology, and as you can see, one direction is recessed or elevated one level. As shown it uses simple diagonal links between tracks of the same direction (a penalty station ma be added as needed). Could be quite interesting to test this concept on a busy ML..
