==DRAFT==

(do comments to the discussion page)

Because there are some server limits for the coop games. I like to test an other game type.

  • The Idea is, you have to download a save load it to your client and play i.e. 10 years. Then upload it to the wiki for someone else, he will download it and continue this game and so on....
  • The games are also good for times when both servers are empty and you have to wait. (Please, do login i.e. on Sandbox anyway, coop on Sandbox should always have prio)
  • a save could be downloaded from more than one and will be uploaded from the first :) (The second can decide now, to trash his save or open a new game.)
  • there should be set some rules like
    • at least 2 years
    • max 5 year
    • Big things like BBH's or main stations should be annonced so that others know, it will be have longer, maybe contact over IRC
    • do describe what you have done, what should be done next, what have to be done next (i.e. fix jam on BBH2 southwards)
    • etc.

Examples:

  1. a save from the sb (Nr. 7)

The game has about 1350 trains and isn't playable on the server anymore, but should be possible on "strong" clients: openttd.cfg Lust and Glory.sav

  • - 2090: Sandboxers did the network, 1350 trains, ...
  • 2090 - 3000 (25.08.06 23:45) / improved joiner on SLH13, rebuild splitter/joiner in Drundwill...--Ammler 02:00, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
  • 3000 -  : Downloaded from Xeryus (25.08.06 23:50), John (26.08.06 03:50)

I like this idea. But we need some php-thingy for this:

  1. Account/Password system so we can control who downloads/uploads the game and when this is possible (if Sandbox has 0 players?)
  2. If someone has downloaded the game, the download is locked or at least marked in a way a users recognizes that another player is currently on this savegame
  3. On the reupload, a log file is written who has uploaded it and when it was received. We can track changes then.
  4. Also, we need a comments-box where players can write their ideas for next players and argue about bad things they fixed etc.

I like the idea because we could play REALLY huge maps again. But as Ammler stated, we need to ensure that MS/SB has priority. Also, I think we should start the map altogether and quit it at the time we made the network plan - then this map can be taken and put at the php-system.
